Day 6 · Fruit drawer

The fruit stall

Fruit goes in its own drawer, apart from the vegetables. Many fruits release ethylene, a gas that speeds up the ripening of everything nearby; next to the veg, they spoil it sooner.

And remember some fruit doesn't even want the fridge: bananas blacken in the cold and tomatoes lose flavour. Those go in the fruit bowl.

If the drawer has a humidity control, turn it down a bit for fruit.

Art. VI

«fruit in its drawer, apart it must go; its gas ripens neighbours and lays them low.»
