Day 8 · The water & ice dispenser

The bit almost nobody cleans

The water and ice dispenser is the most iconic part of the American fridge… and the most forgotten at cleaning time. Filter and tray build up limescale, mould and odd tastes.

Today isn't about placing food: it's maintenance. Change the water filter per the maker (usually every 6 months), clean the drip tray and, if it's been a while, empty and refresh old ice, which picks up freezer smells.

Tip: don't store strong-smelling food near the icemaker, or your ice will taste of it.

Art. VIII

«keep the dispenser clean, change the filter on time; so water and ice never pick up a grime.»
